About the project

The Postcard Project started as a way to teach my kids about the world. My son Bleu received a map for his seventh birthday. The idea was to ask readers to send him a postcard from the place they live. We put a pin in the map for each place that is represented. Bleu is now eight and the map got torn up (too many holes!), but we are still collecting the cards. I scan each card and post it here and he keeps the original card in a shoebox. When we get a new card, we try to learn a little about the place it comes from. We may research the history, try to make regional food or learn local traditions. The cards are a starting point.

The rules are simple:

Bleu Armendariz
1217 North Alameda
Las Cruces, New Mexico 88005
U.S.A.

If you want to be a part of the project, but don't want to mail your card please submit your scanned or photographed cards to The Postcard Project @ Flickr group.

Kristal,
this is really cool blog with the scanned postcards. I will have to add to your collection with one from Boston. I also read I Like Mike blog. Very sweet of you and a nice site. A bookmark blog to keep.

Hello...great
it's a very nice way of showing your collection to the world. I had the same idea of collecting postcards for my daughter Elke of 9...and we started to try to get a postcard addressed on her name with a personal message on the back. Our goal was to get a postcard from every country of the world (which seems to be 193). Today after 9 months we've got 151 countries.... a friend of mine putted our list on his website (which you can reach by http://www.psychoburger.net/psychoburger/newpage12.html
so, if you would know somebody who could help us with the missing countries, please let us know... thanks and good luck. Wim (from Belgium)

This is my first visit to you. What a great idea! I am so doing a postcard for Bleu. I will send it via airmail. My husband and I are from Virginia but living in London (UK) for two years. The card will be on its way in a few days!
